Does size matter?
A new list of 60 creators is built on a different idea: that influence is earned through the work, not counted in followers.

Most creator rankings keep honoring the same few names at the top. The Impact List 2027 took a different route.
Of the more than 600 creators who applied or were nominated, a jury of 22 chose just 60 winners. In her editor’s note, Becky Owen says the list is about “the creators who are having an impact in their space, and the work behind it, not just the size of their following.”
Rising talent, recognized early
The clearest sign of that philosophy is the Creators to Watch category, which recognizes people whose audiences are still growing but whose work and trajectory already stand out.
One of them, Tatiana DeSouza, passed 25,000 followers across Instagram and TikTok in eight months. Her explanation is refreshingly simple: she focused on “consistency and authenticity.”
Audiences seem to agree with the judges. YPulse’s Celebrities and Influencers Report 2026 found that 73% of the people surveyed trust smaller creators more than big influencers.
What it means for creators
Let the work be your proof. Show what you make and how it performs for the people you reach.
Keep showing up. Consistency matters more than one viral moment.
Know your people. A smaller, engaged audience can be worth more to a brand than a large, distant one.
What it means for brands
Look past follower count. Check the quality of the work and the trust you see in the comments.
Watch who’s rising. Creators on their way up are often the most committed partners.
Ask what they’ve built. The community tells you more than a number does.
Why this matters in sailing
Sailing is a close-knit niche where attention is earned, not handed out. A creator with a few thousand followers who know exactly why they follow can mean more to a marine brand than a huge but passive audience.
Size gets noticed, but impact gets trusted. If you’re a creator doing great work without the big numbers, we’d love to hear from you.
